El cerco de diez días The ten-day encirclement

Keiko on Tuesday, Abelardo on August 7, and the market Mexico is about to lose.

Desplazó a Brasil. Solo lo superan Canadá y México. Y viene subiendo.

This Tuesday, in Lima, Keiko Fujimori will place her hand on the Constitution. Ten days later, on Friday August 7, in Bogotá, Abelardo de la Espriella will do the same. And in Mexico almost nobody is counting what that means.

In ten days, the two countries flanking the South American Pacific pass to governments aligned with Washington. And Mexico is left alone.

Both elections were won by a hair. In Peru by 49,641 votes. In Colombia by less than one percentage point. That is not a wave. It is a surgical operation, and here I will explain exactly where it was won, province by province, and who designed the method.

But what will actually cost Mexico money is not in the inaugural speech. It is in a Chinese port eighty kilometers from Lima, and in a fruit you eat without thinking.

Peru is already the third-largest supplier of fruits and vegetables to the United States. It displaced Brazil. Only Canada and Mexico are ahead. And it is climbing.

This is not a note about Peruvian politics. It is the map of the competition heading straight for Mexico, with figures. Not in the oath. At customs.

They are sworn in Tuesday in Lima and August 7 in Bogotá. Two elections won by less than a point, a Chinese port eighty kilometers off the Peruvian coast, and the agro-export market Mexico is about to lose in the United States.

Some weeks look like routine and are hinges. This is one of them. On Tuesday July 28, the date Peru celebrates its independence, Keiko Fujimori assumes the presidency for the 2026-2031 term. It is her fourth candidacy, after three runoff defeats and more than five hundred days in pretrial detention. Ten days later, on August 7, Abelardo de la Espriella is sworn in in Colombia, succeeding Gustavo Petro.

Two countries, ten days, the same turn. And on the Mexican side, silence.

Start with the numbers, because numbers explain better than any adjective. In Peru, Fujimori won 9,223,396 votes, 50.135 percent, against 9,173,755 for Roberto Sánchez of Juntos por el Perú. The margin was 49,641 votes out of a roll of more than eighteen million. The National Elections Jury proclaimed her on July 3, after weeks of protests, fraud accusations and review of contested ballots.

In Colombia, De la Espriella won on June 21 with 12,960,000 votes, 49.66 percent, against 12,708,000 for Iván Cepeda of the Pacto Histórico. Less than one percentage point, in the highest-turnout presidential election in Colombian history.

Nobody swept. Both won by the thinnest possible margin. And far from diminishing this story, that is exactly what makes it matter.

Because when an election is won by half a point, ideology does not decide it. Execution decides it. Who knocked on doors in which province, who mobilized the overseas vote, who understood the roll better. And in both cases there is a repeating pattern almost nobody is examining closely.

One figure as a preview, because it explains more than a hundred opinion columns. In the Colombian first round, among voters residing in the United States, De la Espriella took 155,816 votes against 32,324 for Cepeda. Seventy-two percent against twenty-eight. The consulates of Miami, Houston, New York and Washington voted as a bloc.

And this is where I stop the open section, because what follows you will not find in any Mexican newscast. Next comes the breakdown of how the victory was built in the field and in the provinces, who designed the method and why it works; the clash between China and the United States that Keiko inherits with a Chinese megaport eighty kilometers from Lima; what happens to the São Paulo Forum when it loses two capitals in ten days; and above all, the exact accounting of which market Peru takes from Mexico in the United States, with figures, product by product.

What follows you will not read anywhere else

Behind this point sits the full answer to the question no Mexican newscast is asking: what does it cost Mexico that Peru and Colombia switch sides in ten days? With customs figures, product by product.

Plus two tools I built so you can see it yourself:

  • Keiko's four fronts · governability, the Chinese port, copper and legitimacy, with each one's difficulty level
  • The realignment board · country by country, the date it changed and what it implies for Mexico

And everything else: the Chancay Chinese port Keiko inherits and why she cannot break the contract, what happens to the São Paulo Forum when it loses two capitals in ten days, the market table product by product in dollars, the tariff the United States just raised on Peru and why it buys Mexico time, and what I would do if my money were at stake.

No newsroom wrote this. I wrote it, cross-referencing electoral results, court rulings and customs records. Permanent access, Spanish and English, with the full 34 minute audio.

Cómo se ganó: el método, no la ideologíaHow it was won: method, not ideology

This is what no Mexican newsroom will give you, because it requires crossing three files at once: the electoral, the geopolitical and the customs file. How two elections were won by half a point working the provinces and the overseas vote, who designed the method, what Keiko inherits with a Chinese megaport eighty kilometers from Lima, and the exact accounting, product by product and in dollars, of the market Peru is taking from Mexico in the United States. 🔒
